Strategy
In order to realize our mission, NCIV collects knowledge and information about indigenous peoples´ issues, and works with a wide network of indigenous peoples´ organizations (IPOs), non governmental organizations (NGOS), scientists and journalists, to bring these issues to the attention of the most relevant decision makers in the Netherlands. In this way NCIV becomes the central point through which indigenous issues are connected with the Dutch society. To illustrate NCIV's role, we refer to the scheme below:

Stategic Choices
This strategy is based on the following main choices;
- Focus on actors who either make or influence policies in the Netherlands; Actors (Governmental Organizations, Companies, NGOs, Experts and Media), that have an impact on the well-being of indigenous peoples.
- A thematic approach; Since indigenous peoples' rights do not have a high priority in policies in the Netherlands, but many current policy dialogues on other issues do affect the rights of indigenous peoples, NCIV will focus on promoting the rights of indigenous peoples through participation in the policy dialogues on these other, related issues. These other issues include:
- Millennium Development Goals
- Corporate Social Responsibility
- Climate change (such as the REDD-initiative)
- Biofuels
- Sustainable Development
Other issues in which NCIV could be involved in the future; indigenous women (gender), Acces & Benefit Sharing, (bio) cultural diversity.
- A human rights-based approach; NCIV will base its activities and communication on the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
- Strategic Alliances; NCIV will either join existing alliances around the current policy debates in the Netherlands or create new alliances in order to be more effective and reach a larger audience.
- Collect and create knowledge and information; NCIVs main added value is its knowledge of indigenous issues and information networks, and its lties with the Dutch society. NCIV will organize this knowledge and information and works to link this to the Dutch society.
The expected results for indigenous peoples
With the strategy as described above NCIV aims to realize the following outcomes:
- Relevant Dutch policies include recognition for the rights of indigenous peoples.
- Increased cooperation and interaction between indigenous peoples and Dutch actors, based on these policies.
- Increased contribution by the Dutch society to sustainable livelihoods and the well being of indigenous peoples.
